Social media can be good for business
By Kirsti ScottA new report just out from think tank Demos says that social networks provide great opportunities for business collaboration. During a downturn, networks offer job opportunities, commercial possibilities, and social support.
Social networks can serve as incubators of innovation and productivity. Organizations should not try to limit their use, but instead encourage staff to build relationships with people outside their organization. When someone leaves the organization, those ties should not be cut, as these contacts can continue to provide information and experience from the outside. While managers cannot police social networks within organizations, they can provide a set of guidelines for responsible use and “rules of the game.”
